§ 10.08.040. Temporary parking prohibitions.

  • The chief of police is authorized to prohibit, temporarily, parking on any street or highway or from any public place or private real property or part thereof in an impending or existing emergency, or for a lawful assemblage, demonstration or procession or to facilitate the orderly conduct of elections in and around polling places; provided, that there is reasonable justification for such prohibition. Vehicles parked in places where parking is prohibited temporarily may be moved by or under the direction of an officer. To implement the provisions of Public Law 98-435, the voting accessibility for the Elderly and Handicapped Act, and to promote the fundamental right to vote by improving access for handicapped and elderly individuals to polling places the traffic commission is authorized pursuant to Section 10.04.020 to make temporary parking prohibitions on streets or highways in and around polling places and on any public or private real property where polling places are located.
